That means the average American will work about 80,000 hours throughout their lifetime.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because such a large percentage of an employee\u2019s life is spent working, companies must create an environment where others want to work each day. By designing and enhancing an <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailypay.com\/on-demand-pay\/on-demand-pay-employee-adoption\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">employee experience<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, you can expect to see greater levels of engagement, satisfaction, retention and company commitment.<\/span><\/p><h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Leading by Example<\/span><\/h2><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In his 2017 research, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/hbr.org\/2017\/03\/why-the-millions-we-spend-on-employee-engagement-buy-us-so-little\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">employee experience expert Jacob Morgan<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> found that employees care the most about these three work environments:<\/span><\/p><ol><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Cultural<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Technological<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Physical<\/span><\/li><\/ol><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Morgan also found that there are a handful of companies that have focused on culture, technology and physical spaces to yield real business results. For example:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Airbnb<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, an online marketplace for home rentals, focuses on employee experience by allowing their employees to design and build their own conference rooms.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Adobe<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a computer software company, has made it their mission to increase diversity and inclusion, provide their employees with feedback programs and top-notch technology and is constantly experimenting with different workspace plans.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>LinkedIn<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a business and employment-oriented online platform, is known for hosting HR hackathons to help gather new ideas and different ways to engage employees.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Out of nearly 250 organizations Morgan analyzed, only 6% have been as \u2018experiential\u2019 in their innovation of culture, technology and physical workspaces as Airbnb, Adobe and LinkedIn.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And, according to Morgan\u2019s book, this small percentage of organizations are reaping these big rewards:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">4X higher average profits<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2X higher average revenues<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">40 percent lower turnover<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">24 percent smaller headcount<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sounds appealing? Even organizations with small budgets can achieve these results as long as they have a plan for designing their employee experience.<\/span><\/p><h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Designing Your Company\u2019s Employee Experience<\/span><\/h2><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first step innovative companies take to improve their employee experience is reevaluating how they look at change through the process of design thinking.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Design thinking, a solution-based approach to resolving problems, can be useful for solving complex employee experience issues that can sometimes plague organizations.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many companies use employee experience platforms to enhance company culture and give employees a better work experience.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ama.org\/marketing-news\/the-5-phases-of-design-thinking\/#:~:text=The%20short%20form%20of%20the,%2C%20ideate%2C%20prototype%20and%20test.\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">five stages in design thinking<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> related to employee experience are:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Empathize<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Employers must be able to empathize with their employees in order to gain a greater understanding of their ideal work environment. By doing so, organizations are more likely to be able to develop a well-rounded plan of action.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Define<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Organizations must define and develop their ideal employee experience. You can do so by mapping out the necessary steps to get there and be sure to use employees\u2019 insights to drive those steps.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Ideate<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Organizations must start coming up with concrete ideas and identify work environment solutions.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Prototype<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Create a scalable solution and run it past your employees, who will either accept, reject or provide feedback for re-examination.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Test<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Make sure the solution not only works but is accepted among your employees. There may still be some rough edges to smooth out, but this final stage should be viewed as an iterative process.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ultimately, using design thinking to improve the employee experience will provide organizations with an in-depth understanding of their employees\u2019 needs, wants and desires and allow an organization to make changes based on employee insights.<\/span><\/p><h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Involve Your Employees<\/span><\/h2><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For many organizations who feel overwhelmed by the idea of improving their employee experience, hiring a dedicated employee experience manager is an option. Common titles range from the likes of global chief employee experience officer and head of employee experience.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The role of an employee experience manager is most closely related to a human resources management position.
